Recycled Dress Shirt Rug: Progress Report

I've finished a bit more on my Recycle Dress Shirt Rug, and I've posted a picture of what I've done so far on my blog. I see others have posted pictures of their goodies here on the Not Yarn Along site, but I'm so lazy with the double posting that I'll just give you a link to my site if you're interesting in seeing how my rug is going. If you want to see it, click here.

Straw...

For my Not Yarn project I decided to use straw. I found these two old straw hats that were bought years ago at a dollar store and decided that I would Recycle them into a snail purse. I think I might mix some yarn in with it, not sure yet.

Here are the hats before froggin...

Recycled Dress Shirt Rug

We're off to a loping start on the rug I decided to make out of my husband's frayed dress shirts. If you're interested in how it's going, and in seeing a first picture of some knitted dress-shirt-yarn, take a little gander at my site.

Leather

I have a couple of not-yarn projects in mind, but I decided to start with the Corral Belt from Knit Wit. It's made out of leather cord. Here is a picture of my progress so far:

And here is a close up:

As you can see, it ends up looking sort of like a braided belt.

My Material of Choice

Hello everyone. I'm just thought I'd introduce myself and reveal my not yarn choice. I'm Vicki and I love the idea for this "Along". I still have to get the button and add it to my blog. I got my idea from a book a looked through at the bookstore but decided not to bring home. I believe it was "Knit Wits" but I wouldn't swear to it. Anyway, the book had a pattern made of the plastic lacing I remember making lanyards out of in elementary school. It sounds like fun! Almost like jelly shoes... So I'm thinking I'll make something out of that. I've been looking for sources online where I can get a spool of the lacing (vs. the 10 yd bits they sell at the craft store). I'm thinking I'll either make a small purse, or perhaps a wallet or a cell phone cozy. Maybe all three! I can't wait to start and to see what everyone else comes up with :)

Knitting With Wire

Hello everybody! My name is Sandy, and this knitalong couldn't have come at a better time for me - a few days ago, I discovered knitting with wire. I always knew it was something you could do, but never gave it a second thought until I saw the two wire projects in the book "Simple Knits with a Twist" - a lovely knitted copper bowl and beaded napkin holders. I knew I had to try it:

I haven't decided yet what I'm going to knit out of wire - perhaps a beaded candle shade, or a choker, or a bowl inspired by the Simple Knits book. Either way, I'll be talking about my progress at my website Burnt Orange (and here's the original post I wrote about knitting with wire, with a few more pictures). I can't wait to see what the rest of you ladies come up with - I have the feeling there are going to be some creative projects in the coming months! Best of luck! :)

Members list

As you may have noticed, I'm continually adding to the list of members in the sidebar. I'm trying to get everyone's name linked to their blog if they have one. So if you have a blog or website and I don't have your name linked, please let me know. Also let me know if I've done something silly, like spell your name wrong or something.

The button is here

As you may have noticed by looking at the sidebar, I did manage to come up with a button. If any of you creative types out there feel like making a button of your own, feel free. Just email me a copy so I can put it on the blog, too.

Just so you know...

I just thought I should let everyone know that we decided to set an official end date of August 31 for the knitalong. That way we can all have a summer full of experimenting.

Buttons

In case anyone is wondering, I am working on making a button or two for the knitalong. I should hopefully have them done by the end of the week (which I guess would be just in time for the April 15th start date).

Welcome to the Not Yarn Along!

Hi everyone! I just thought I'd take a minute and introduce the Not Yarn Along. Basically, it is just what the name implies. To belong to this knitalong, you have to knit something with a material other than yarn. Other than that, the sky's the limit. Knit whatever project you want, out of whatever you want - wire, cloth, plastic bags, you name it! Sarah and I are your hosts, and the official start date is April 15th. If you would like to join, leave a comment here (please include your email address) or email me, and I will send you an invitation.
