Having seen that jewelry can be knitted, I couldn't resist the temptation to snatch up a few packets of beads, some clasps and some wire. I spent the better part of yesterday evening threading the colorful beads onto my wire. Then, I cast on and now have about half a bracelet. I love the look of it. Just doing a simple garter stitch, placing a bead between each stitch makes a stunning little bracelet. It's actually quite dainty.

I attempted to photograph the thing, but it doesn't seem very photogenic (darn double chin). My camera seems to have trouble focusing in on it. I'm going to attempt it again after recharging the camera batteries and see if it'll work better if I just place it on an all white background. I'll let you know when I get a picture of it posted on my site so you can come have a look.

Man's Best Friend

Please check my blog www.purlingpodd.com. Sorry I don't have pictures at the moment, but I think I might be using RexLace as my medium for the project... I started knitting a swatch on size 7s, and I am noticing it can be a pain b/c it's flat & depending on how it twists, the loop size varies. So my cast-on row is atrocious! I thought it could make a cute purse - maybe something like this (only obviously not furry ;) I bought a spool (100 yrds) each of RexLace in color #44 (clear raspberry) and #25 (silver sparkle). I'm just thought I'd introduce myself and reveal my not yarn choice. I'm Vicki and I love the idea for this "Along". I still have to get the button and add it to my blog. I got my idea from a book a looked through at the bookstore but decided not to bring home. I believe it was "Knit Wits" but I wouldn't swear to it. Anyway, the book had a pattern made of the plastic lacing I remember making lanyards out of in elementary school. It sounds like fun! Almost like jelly shoes... So I'm thinking I'll make something out of that. I've been looking for sources online where I can get a spool of the lacing (vs. the 10 yd bits they sell at the craft store). I'm thinking I'll either make a small purse, or perhaps a wallet or a cell phone cozy. Maybe all three! I can't wait to start and to see what everyone else comes up with :)

Knitting With Wire

Hello everybody! My name is Sandy, and this knitalong couldn't have come at a better time for me - a few days ago, I discovered knitting with wire. I always knew it was something you could do, but never gave it a second thought until I saw the two wire projects in the book "Simple Knits with a Twist" - a lovely knitted copper bowl and beaded napkin holders. I knew I had to try it:

I haven't decided yet what I'm going to knit out of wire - perhaps a beaded candle shade, or a choker, or a bowl inspired by the Simple Knits book. Either way, I'll be talking about my progress at my website Burnt Orange (and here's the original post I wrote about knitting with wire, with a few more pictures). I can't wait to see what the rest of you ladies come up with - I have the feeling there are going to be some creative projects in the coming months! Best of luck! :)

Members list

As you may have noticed, I'm continually adding to the list of members in the sidebar. I just thought I'd take a minute and introduce the Not Yarn Along. Basically, it is just what the name implies. To belong to this knitalong, you have to knit something with a material other than yarn. Other than that, the sky's the limit. Knit whatever project you want, out of whatever you want - wire, cloth, plastic bags, you name it! Sarah and I are your hosts, and the official start date is April 15th.
